Assuming ISOGAMY (see Glossary) to be ancestral, we can ask: why did the gametes change in relative size? This question defines one of the oldest debates in evolutionary biology (see references in Refs 1,2), but has, for many3–5, been satisfactorily answered by the seminal work of Parker et al.6 and its subsequent developments7–13. But are the assumptions of the model reasonable? More importantly, do the assumptions and the predictions of the theory command empirical support? We argue that the empirical base for the established model is weak. It makes an unusual and untested assumption, and the limited support for its comparative predictions could have a simple alternative explanation14. Therefore, it is helpful to ask what other advantages there might be to small sperm and large eggs.

Evolution of the female roles in the US (Case study: The Hollywood movies in the late 1970s and early 1980s)
Prior to the 1980s, numerous charges of discrimination were noteworthy among women in Hollywood. In those years, women were in uncertain situations, so they seemed aimless and vulnerable. In the period that this article focuses on, the female characters are or have become intelligent and therefore open-minded and potentially independent. Although, they are still vulnerable and unsure of themsel...
متن کاملA Green Competitive Vehicle Routing Problem under Uncertainty Solved by an Improved Differential Evolution Algorithm
Regarding the development of distribution systems in the recent decades, fuel consumption of trucks has increased noticeably, which has a huge impact on greenhouse gas emissions. For this reason, the reduction of fuel consumption has been one of the most important research areas in the last decades. The aim of this paper is to propose a robust mathematical model for a variant of a vehicle routi...
متن کاملOogamy: Inventing the Sexes
The male-female dichotomy has evolved independently in nearly all lineages of multicellular organisms. Why this should be the case is still uncertain, but recent studies of mating-type genes in green algae open a promising new way to explore molecular-genetic aspects of the evolution of dichotomous sexes.

متن کاملOptimization in Uncertain and Complex Dynamic Environments with Evolutionary Methods
In the real world, many of the optimization issues are dynamic, uncertain, and complex in which the objective function or constraints can be changed over time. Consequently, the optimum of these issues is changed nonlinearly. Therefore, the optimization algorithms not only should search the global optimum value in the space but also should follow the path of optimal change in dynamic environmen...

In the environment of business‐to‐business e‐commerce, Buyers and sellers in mature industrial markets can turn single transactions into long-term beneficial relationships by a deeper understanding of the complex connection between the two and buyers and sellers are uncertain about their roles. A “must-do” for the sellers, in particular, is to understand patterns of investment and reward,...
